Welcome Back to Naval Point in 2024

Happy New Year to all of our members and welcome back to 2024.

Firstly I would like to celebrate all our members who have had what sounds like a busy but fun and successful time at multiple regattas.

Over the past weekend, NPCL hosted the Lyttleton portion of the Zephyr Canterbury champs. Saturday threw some unsailable conditions but Sunday was great! well done to all. Results can be found here

Many of our junior members could be found competing over at SIAG in Charteris Bay, Massive congratulations to Samson Nuttal for winning the green fleet and battling Saturday's tough conditions. William Keer 4th, Jack Doig 5th, and Elsie Bedford 6th also gave their first big green fleet regatta a crack.  Kieran Ivory, made the brave jump into Optimist Open fleet for the weekend, with a very commendable 9th. Epic job team! keep up the hard work and stop, interislander Regatta in Picton!

Over to the trailer yachts, Naval Point had 7 Elliott 5.9's travel to Nelson over the weekend for their South Island champs held in conjunction with the Nelson Regatta. Shane Smith with ‘boat one’ took a very clear win. Amanda Norris and ‘Rapido’ took 3rd closely followed by Seamus Tredinnick with ‘Magpie’ 4th, Andrew McFarlane ‘Retro’ 5th, Gary Dixon with ‘Erotic’ in 6th, Tom Hayes with ‘Spurt' in 7th and Glen Hoban Watson with ‘Chop’ in 8th

Making our way further North to the ILCA (Laser) National Champs. Well done to Gabby Kenton-Smith for her 27th overall and 6th Woman in the ILCA 6 and Anna Martin with her 31st Overall and 7th Woman.

It's great to see so many of our NPCL sailors back traveling regattas, if you have any regatta stories or blurbs to share with us, we would love to share them.

SailGP site works - update

  1. Power upgrade and trenching work – these works have now commenced and will provide a small disruption to our site over the coming days and weeks. We are in very close communication with the team undertaking the work and they will have their site minimized as much as possible during our sailing days and especially throughout our regattas.

Plan of location of Orion upgrade and trenching works.

Naval Point Marina Removal

sécurité, sécurité , sécurité

With all of the main structures and piles now removed an underwater survey was completed on Monday. During this, it was discovered that 6 piles remain underwater, 2 of which are only 0.5m under the low tide mark. these piles are now all marked with a small yellow bouy until they can get a diver to assist in the removal of the piles.

Please keep well clear of the yellow marks to avoid any potential collision until these final piles can be removed.

Cholmondeley Charity Yacht Race

It’s that time of year again when we are on the hunt for a number of boats to help us support Cholmondeley Children’s Centre for their annual charity race day.

Last year we had 17 boats on the water from our biggest keelboats right down to trailer yachts.

If you and your boat are available on Friday 15th of March from Midday, please contact Amanda at admin@navalpoint.co.nz

Cholmondeley will have corporate teams from as small as 4 and as large as 9 people so please let us know how many you can comfortably (and maximum) take.

You are welcome and encouraged to have 1 other experienced crew member on board with you. We will have a skipper's briefing at 12.30 pm. At 1 pm everyone will make their way to the boats and at 2 pm is race starts. Followed by their social function and auctions back at the club afterward, all are welcome.

Working Bee

We will be hosting a working bee this Saturday 9am-1pm.  Anyone that can polish trophies, do a bit of sanding, painting, or a bit of garden work is a great help to us!  Finish up with a sausage sizzle on the deck.  We do have a regatta this weekend so car pooling is a must!
